Ibeju Lekki Local Government today played host to an annual program hosted by the Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Local Government across the entire state tagged NATIONAL CAMPAIGN PROGRAMME ON CULTISM AND DRUG ABUSE.
The Council Chairman Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa in his opening remarks affirmed the existence of cultism way back but chipped in that it is an ill wind that blows no good. Though, as the Mayor puts it, they (Students) are the leaders of tomorrow, it doesn’t come by chance or accident, but by dint of hard work, determination and shunning of vices like cultism and illicit abuse of drugs.

The Council Chairman equally affirmed that cultism has left the four walls of the higher institution and is now found in almost every stratum of the society, as this is a serious problem bedevilling the society which affects the moral standards of Students. 
Moreover, the Council Mayor applauded the efforts of the teachers for ensuring that they maintain high moral standards among the students and equally thanked the facilitator of the programme, Dr. Olufemi Michael, as well. He expressed the readiness of the Local Government to partner with the State Government to tackle headlong the menace of cultism.
Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa took time to enlighten the audience that for his administration,  Education for the youths is on the front burner as a lot of programmes have been lined up to engage them like the Literary and Debating competition which will come up annually, a mini library where information can be sought and sporting events in the mould of the Chairman’s Cup as the Mayor affirmed that these are ways of grooming good future leaders.

The facilitator, Dr. Olufemi Michael eulogized the Council Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa and upheld that he is indeed a political disciple of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo on progressive politics.
The facilitator equally appreciated the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu for his foresight and visionary ideals towards the students of the state. He, therefore, charged the students to chart a course for themselves in order to have a clear cut edge in life. He exposed the students to the fact that the Government is seriously concerned about them as he pleaded with them to shun acts of cultism, ignore the pathway of thuggery and flee from every form of illicit drugs. While appealing to them to take their studies serious, he also admonished them to look into the aspect of vocational skills as a means of preparing them for the future.

While giving the vote of thanks, the Head of Department, Education, Mr Akeem Adekoya pleaded that the students take to cognizance all they have learned for the day.
Schools present at the occasion were Ibeju Lekki Senior and Junior High School, Orimedu High School, Iwerekun High School, Magbon Alade Junior and Senior Secondary School, Akodo High School, Debojo High School.
Present at the occasion are the former supervisor for Education, Hon. Temitope Sofwan, Council-Manager, Engr Olubunmi Akitoye, the Council Treasurer, Mr. Onabanjo Sunday, Heads of Departments.
