Blaqbonez Fires Shots at Odumodu on New Album No Excuses

Blaqbonez has never been one to shy away from controversy, and his new album No Excuses is proof that the self-proclaimed “Emeka the Stallion” still knows how to command attention. Released at midnight after months of teasing and postponement, the 16-track project is already sparking massive conversations across social media, especially for one track, ACL, which many listeners believe aims fellow rapper OdumoduBlvck.

The album, originally expected in August, was delayed after Blaqbonez admitted he needed more time to perfect it. He called it his most ambitious work yet—an album without shortcuts or compromises. That reputation for deliberate precision, mixed with his flair for showmanship, shines through in No Excuses.

Since his breakthrough in 2019, when The New York Times spotlighted him among Nigeria’s new rap vanguards, Blaqbonez has built a persona on confidence, wit, and reinvention. From Sex Over Love (2021) to Young Preacher (2022), his evolution has been clear. But this latest project? It’s less about proving his lyrical worth and more about reasserting dominance.

From Friends to Rivals: How the Beef Began

Blaqbonez and OdumoduBlvck weren’t always enemies. The two rappers once supported each other online, often exchanging praise and sharing a vision for pushing Nigerian hip-hop forward. Their 2023 collaboration Technician seemed to mark a new brotherhood in rap—until tensions began to rise.

Not long after, Odumodu started posting cryptic messages on X (formerly Twitter), which many interpreted as subtle digs at other rappers. Blaqbonez, never one to ignore a challenge, fired back in the only way he knows how, through music. In October 2024, he dropped Haibo Freestyle, a record full of lyrical bravado that hinted at an unnamed rival. Fans didn’t need long to guess who he meant.

Odumodu later responded with Pussy Niggaz, a venomous track widely seen as a direct reply. From there, their once-friendly relationship disintegrated into one of the most talked-about rivalries in Nigerian rap. For nearly a year, both rappers traded coded lyrics and cryptic posts, reviving the competitive spirit the genre had been missing.

ACL: The Diss That Shook the Scene

Now, on No Excuses, Blaqbonez seems to have reignited that fire with ACL, a track fans are calling his boldest attack yet. Without mentioning names, he takes aim with pointed lines about dishonesty, clout-chasing, and desperation, lyrics that fit Odumodu like a glove.

He mocks unnamed rappers for lacking originality and relying on flattery for success, referencing how some allegedly defend mediocrity just to stay in favour. Listeners have linked several lines to a recent online debate where Odumodu’s music faced heavy criticism, suggesting that Blaqbonez might be using those events as fuel.

In another verse, he taunts a rival for thinking he’s “a king” while being “a pawn,” a sharp jab seemingly directed at Odumodu’s self-styled image as a rap monarch. Blaqbonez also questions the authenticity of streaming numbers, throwing shade at “agriculture”—a slang term for streaming farms. The message is clear: some artists’ success might be more artificial than organic.

The rapper doesn’t hold back as he ridicules his target’s online habits, accusing him of chasing clout instead of focusing on music. He even pokes fun at constant tweeting for engagement revenue, adding a playful but cutting line about being “paid by Elon Musk.” The track ends with a brutal final bar, crass and unmistakably personal, cementing ACL as one of his most confrontational records to date.

Beyond the Beef: A Statement Album

While the diss track has dominated headlines, No Excuses is far more than a grudge project. The album’s sound is crisp, introspective, and versatile—showcasing a balance between sharp lyricism and emotional honesty. It’s an album about accountability, ambition, and artistic growth.

Producers deliver a sonic palette that swings between swagger and sincerity, allowing Blaqbonez to explore both his confidence and vulnerability. The rapper sounds more assured than ever, weaving bold statements with moments of reflection about fame, love, and legacy.

Industry figures like DJ Neptune have already praised the album’s energy, calling it Blaqbonez’s most complete project yet. And while ACL fuels the flames of rivalry, it also highlights what Blaqbonez does best: commanding attention while pushing Nigerian rap forward.

Whether or not Odumodu chooses to respond, the message from No Excuses is loud and clear, Blaqbonez is done holding back. This time, he’s not asking for permission or forgiveness. He’s giving no excuses.
