Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka has addressed public inquiries regarding his assessment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. In a recent statement, Soyinka urged Nigerians not to impose their expectations on his timeline, emphasizing that he will express his views when he deems it appropriate.
Soyinka highlighted that he has not traditionally held press conferences to evaluate past presidents’ performances, suggesting that his approach remains consistent. This response comes amidst growing public anticipation for his perspective on the current government’s policies and actions.
The Nobel Laureate has previously been vocal on national issues. In August 2024, he criticized President Tinubu’s nationwide address for not addressing the violent crackdown on #EndBadGovernance protesters by security agencies. Additionally, in April 2023, Soyinka expressed his disillusionment with the electoral process, stating that his trust had “broken down completely” following the general elections.
Despite these past commentaries, Soyinka has chosen to withhold immediate judgment on the current administration, indicating that he will share his assessment at a time of his choosing.
