Wike Denies Presidential Ambition, Declares Support for Tinubu in 2027

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports suggesting that he is nursing a presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speculation had circulated that some leaders within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were pressuring Wike to run for president. However, in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the Minister described the claim as “a baseless fabrication from idle minds with nothing meaningful to contribute.”

Wike, who served as Governor of Rivers State from 2015 to 2023, reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, saying he remains fully committed to Tinubu’s leadership.

“The Minister has made it clear where he stands as far as the 2027 election is concerned, he is with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Olayinka stated, adding that Wike “does not operate in secrecy” and “always stands by his word.”

Clarifying the PDP Meeting Controversy

Olayinka also addressed reports of a supposed PDP consultative meeting, explaining that the only gathering held on August 20, 2025, involved southern PDP stakeholders preparing for another meeting in Lagos the next day.

He noted that the meeting’s outcome was publicly documented in a press release titled “Re: Purported Meeting of PDP Southern Zoning Consultative Summit,” which was signed by various PDP leaders, including state chairmen, lawmakers, and former officials from the South-East and South-South.

According to the aide, those misrepresenting the event were attempting to link Wike to political scheming within the PDP, despite his clear alignment with President Tinubu’s agenda.

Wike’s Political Stance

Olayinka emphasized that Wike remains focused on the development of the FCT and on supporting the President’s broader vision for the country.

“He has said it clearly, from now till 2031, his loyalty stands with the mandate of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Olayinka affirmed.

He further dismissed the rumours as part of a coordinated attempt to tarnish Wike’s reputation, insisting that the Minister’s character and political direction are well-known.
