FCT Minister Nyesom Wike declared that the Federal Capital Territory’s infrastructure progress is due to President Bola Tinubu’s unwavering support, speaking at the commissioning of a 12-km road in Kwali Area Council on June 22. “We are doing well because Tinubu is supporting us,” Wike said, highlighting 50 completed projects in 2024.

Wike detailed ₦1.2 trillion in FCT projects, including 20 roads, three bridges, and 10 schools, funded by Tinubu’s 2024 supplementary budget. Key projects include the Abuja Rail Mass Transit, operational since May 2025, serving 500,000 commuters monthly, and the Wuye interchange, reducing traffic by 40%. Wike, a former Rivers governor, credited Tinubu’s anti-corruption stance for enabling transparent execution, with 90% of contracts awarded to local firms.

Critics, including PDP’s FCT chapter, argue Wike prioritizes urban projects over rural needs, with 60% of Kwali’s roads unmotorable. Wike announced plans for 30 more projects by 2026, including a 10,000-capacity hospital. Analysts note Tinubu’s backing strengthens Wike’s influence, positioning him for a potential 2027 role.
