Whoopi Goldberg return to star in "Sister Act 3" and produce alongside Tyler Perry.

Television production giants, Disney under their sister company Disney Plus have announced the return of the global blockbuster movie ‘Sister Act 3’ nearly three decades after the original film was released.
According to Variety, Goldberg will return as Deloris Van Cartier, a singer forced to enter the witness protection program, relocated as a nun in a convent which was the same role played in Sister Act 1 and 2.

The 1992 original was a box office hit and together with it’s sequel released the following year gulped in $230 million worldwide surpassing ‘Star Wars’ then.

The cast included Maggie Smith, Harvey Keitel, and Kathy Najimy, A less successful sequel, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, released the following year. A Sister Act musical hit Broadway in 2011.

However, Tyler Perry has been contracted by Disney to produce ‘Sister Act 3’. Although, the release date has not been announced it was gathered that Tyler Perry and Goldberg are currently in the development stage of the film.

Goldberg first teased a third in instalment the franchise in October, 

For a long time they kept saying no-one wanted to see it, and then quite recently it turns out that that may not be true,” the actress and TV personality told James Corden.

“People might want to see it. So we’re working diligently to figure out how to get the gang together,” she added. 

“Listen — bad singing, great singing. OK singing and then nuns. What’s better than that?”

“Sister Act 3” will premiere on Disney Plus, the corporation’s streaming service.
