Veteran actor and broadcaster, Sadiq Daba, dies.

Veteran actor and Broadcaster, Sadiq Abubakar Daba popularly known as Sadiq Daba was reportedly dead on Wednesday, March 3 2021 at 8:30 p.m
According to NTA2 Lagos Network Centre, he died this evening around 8:30 pm after battling leukaemia and cancer for years.

Daba had been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia and later prostate cancer in 2017 in which he got donations from several Nigerians and undergone several treatments.

Meanwhile, in 2019, billionaire and business mogul Femi Otedola, paid for the hospital bills of the actor, says Daba created good memories for him and many others 

“For me, taking care of Sadiq’s medical expenses is my little way of showing appreciation and gratitude for the good memories he created for me and others in the past.” Said Otedola

Data was born in Kano but grew up in Freetown, Sierra Leone where he had his primary education and secondary at St. Edward’s Secondary School. Afterwards, he returns to Nigeria at the age of 15

In Nigeria, Daba bagged degrees in many institutions including Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Kaduna State 

He became a Broadcaster in 1968 after an encounter with one Alifa Baba Hammed who got him an audition at the Radio Television in Kaduna.

Afterwards, Daba has worked as a news anchor, reporter and editor at RKTV, NTPC Lagos and NTA Lagos
His acting career came to prominence in the late 1970s, after starring in Cockcrow at Dawn then gone to feature in other films and soap opera including ‘Behind the Clouds’, ‘A Place Like Home’, ‘Soweto’, and ‘Moment of Truth’.

In 2015, he won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as “Inspector Waziri” in Kunle Afolayan’s October 1. He was last seen acting in Kunle Afolayan’s 2020 movie ‘Citation’ as Professor Yahaya.

He was married to Bolaji Daba and they share two children and grandchildren.

According to his close friend, Joe Odumakin who spoke with The PUNCH, Daba had been I’ll for a while before his demise.
Odumakin said, “We have lost Sadiq. It is so painful because I spoke to him a few days ago when his wife became a permanent secretary. 

“I called his number some hours ago but his son picked it. I told him to give his father the phone, but he told me that his father is gone. I had to ask; gone to where?

“His wife just called me now and we spoke. She said that she was at the morgue. I asked what happened and she told me that he had been ill about a week ago, but he had been home and that he went to the hospital late afternoon today.

“She explained that he had not been eating much and that as soon as they got to the hospital, they started conducting different tests on him, including COVID-19. They put him on oxygen but he died around 8:30 pm.”
