Tragic Accident Claims 18 Lives on Sagamu–Ikorodu Road

 At least 18 people lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident that occurred along the Sagamu-Ikorodu Road in Ogun State on Saturday. The crash involved two commercial vehicles and occurred near the Itokin Bridge, a known accident-prone location due to poor visibility and road conditions.

A tragic road accident occurred on April 5, 2025, along the Sagamu–Ikorodu Road in Ogun State, resulting in the deaths of 18 individuals. The collision involved two commercial vehicles and took place near the Itokin Bridge, a notorious accident-prone area.​

Eyewitnesses report that the accident was caused by reckless overtaking and excessive speeding. The impact led to an immediate fire outbreak, trapping several passengers inside the vehicles. Emergency responders, including personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), arrived promptly to manage the situation.​

The FRSC confirmed that 18 bodies were recovered from the scene, while several injured individuals were transported to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention. Authorities have reiterated the need for motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, emphasizing that speed limits and cautionary measures are in place to prevent such devastating incidents.​

The Ogun State Government has expressed condolences to the families of the victims and assured the public of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety measures across the state.
