The presidency has assured in a new press release that the remaining Chibok girls still in the custody of Boko Haram may be returning home soon as the military may have discovered a way to make that possible.
In the statement tagged ‘Chibok Girls Still On Our Minds,’ the presidency states that the missing student of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, remains a disturbing nightmare and are not forgotten by the government.
Then assures the parents of and Nigerians that the remaining missing Chibok girls freedom from their captive is still a work in progress and efforts are being made to ensure their release.
The press release reads in part, “the Presidency gives assurances that the release of the remaining Chibok girls is still work in progress.
“No one is giving up hope here. Efforts to secure their release through various channels and activities of the security and intelligence agencies remain on course.
“The recent decisive push by the military against the terrorists gives hope that a breakthrough is possible and could happen anytime soon.
“The Presidency asks for support, understanding and prayers for the military as they discharge their historic mandate to quickly finish off the insurgency war and free all citizens held hostage.
You would recall the 276 students of Government Girls Secondary School were abducted by Boko Haram on the 14th of April 2014.
Mostly Christian female students were kidnapped from the Government Girls Secondary School by the Islamic terrorist group known as Boko Haram in the town called Chibok in Borno State.
Out of 276 abducted students, some have escaped and returned to their parents while about 112 are still missing.
According to Wikipedia in May 2016, one of the missing girls, Amina Ali, was found. She claimed that the remaining girls were still there, but that six had died. A further 21 girls were freed in October 2016, while another was rescued the next month. Another was found in January 2017. More girls were freed in May 2017. One of the girls was rescued in January 2018. An unknown additional number of girls escaped in January 2021, but many remain missing.
