Super Falcons Celebrate WAFCON Triumph with Grand Trophy Parade in Lagos

The Super Falcons, Nigeria’s triumphant women’s national football team, on July 31, 2025, staged a jubilant parade through the streets of Lagos to celebrate their hard-fought 2-1 victory over Morocco in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final on July 27.

The festivities commenced at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, with the team, led by captain Rasheedat Ajibade, proudly displaying the coveted trophy along iconic routes including Lekki and Victoria Island, drawing thousands of spectators.

The event featured open-top buses adorned with national flags, live music, and dance performances, reflecting widespread national pride, with 70% of Lagos residents tuning into the live broadcast, according to local media estimates.

President Bola Tinubu honored the team with a $100,000 cash award and national merit honors during a State House reception. The victory marked Nigeria’s ninth WAFCON title, a testament to their resilience despite trailing 1-0 at halftime before Ajibade’s brace secured the win. The narrative of sporting glory is uplifting, but long-term investment in infrastructure, coaching, and player welfare is essential to maintain the team’s continental dominance and global aspirations.
