Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has escalated his legal battle against the Department of State Services (DSS) to the Supreme Court. This follows the Court of Appeal’s decision to nullify the N20 billion in damages previously awarded to him for the 2021 raid on his Ibadan residence.

Igboho’s appeal challenges the appellate court’s ruling, seeking reinstatement of the damages on grounds of alleged violations of his fundamental human rights during the DSS operation. The Supreme Court’s forthcoming judgment is anticipated to have significant implications for the enforcement of citizens’ rights in Nigeria.

Legal experts have noted that the case could set a precedent for how security agencies conduct operations and the extent to which individuals can seek redress for alleged abuses. The outcome may also influence future interactions between state actors and citizens, particularly concerning the balance between national security and individual freedoms.
