Sudan’s Darfur Crisis: 57 Dead in Clashes, Civilians Brace for Bloodbath

 Clashes between Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in Darfur’s El Fasher killed 57 civilians, including 15 children, on April 15-16, 2025, per Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). 

The fighting, centered around El Fasher’s main market, injured 132 and displaced 10,000, with 80% trapped in camps, per UNHCR. The violence, part of Sudan’s 2023 civil war, has killed 24,000 in Darfur since April 2023, per UN OCHA, with 6 million displaced nationwide.

The RSF, controlling 70% of Darfur, shelled civilian areas, while SAF airstrikes hit RSF positions, destroying 40% of El Fasher’s water infrastructure, per UNICEF. Local leaders report 200,000 face starvation, as aid access is blocked, per WFP. The UN Security Council’s April 17 call for a ceasefire, backed by 14 members, was vetoed by Russia. 

MSF’s Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim warned of a “bloodbath” if fighting spreads, as 90% of Darfur’s 9 million lack healthcare, per WHO. Peace talks in Jeddah, mediated by Saudi Arabia, are stalled, with 2025’s 1,500 clashes showing no end,
