Music streaming giant Spotify said on Tuesday that its active users reached 713 million by the end of the third quarter of 2025, while its paying subscribers grew 12 percent to 281 million.
Revenue for the quarter also rose seven percent to €4.3 billion ($4.9 billion), surpassing the company’s earlier forecast of €4.2 billion. The growth, according to Spotify, was largely driven by an increase in premium subscriptions, despite a decline in advertising revenue.
“The business is healthy,” Spotify’s Founder and CEO Daniel Ek said in a statement. “It all comes back to user fundamentals, and that’s where we are, 700 million users who keep coming back, engagement at all-time highs.”

Operating income for the period rose 28 percent to €582 million, while net income more than doubled to €899 million. The results signal renewed momentum for the Swedish streaming company after previous quarters marked by uneven performance.
Spotify Eyes Year-End Growth
Spotify projects that its total user base could reach 745 million by the end of 2025, with paying subscribers expected to climb to 289 million. The platform, which continues to lead the global music streaming market, has attributed its steady growth to product innovations and increased user engagement.
The company has also been experimenting with new features, including podcast integrations and AI-powered music recommendations, aimed at boosting listening time and retention.

In late September, Spotify announced that Daniel Ek will step down as Chief Executive Officer on January 1, 2026, to become Executive Chairman. Chief Product and Technology Officer Gustav Soderstrom and Chief Business Officer Alex Norstrom will jointly take over as co-CEOs.

Ek co-founded Spotify with Martin Lorentzon in 2006 and has overseen its transformation into one of the world’s largest audio streaming platforms. Despite rising competition from Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music, Spotify continues to maintain its lead with strong user loyalty and subscription growth.
