Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo, national leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), reiterated the party’s longstanding policy of supporting constructive federal government initiatives to foster national development.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Awka, Soludo clarified that APGA’s alignment with the central government, a principle since the party’s founding in 2002, remains unchanged under his leadership. The statement addressed speculations about APGA’s stance following Soludo’s critiques of specific federal economic policies, including the removal of fuel subsidies and naira floatation, which have driven inflation to 32%.

Soludo emphasized that APGA’s support is not blanket endorsement but a strategic partnership to advance Nigeria’s unity and progress. He cited the party’s collaboration with President Bola Tinubu’s administration on infrastructure projects, such as the Second Niger Bridge, and security enhancements in the Southeast. However, he urged the federal government to address the economic hardship caused by its reforms, noting that Anambra’s poverty rate rose to 28% in 2024. Soludo highlighted APGA’s governance achievements in Anambra, including free education in public schools and 240 km of road construction since 2022, as models for federal adoption.

The governor’s remarks come amid political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with APGA controlling only Anambra among Nigeria’s 36 states. Soludo called for party unity to strengthen its influence, dismissing rumors of a rift with the federal government. APGA’s policy, rooted in its founder Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu’s vision, has historically balanced regional advocacy with national cooperation. Soludo’s reaffirmation signals APGA’s intent to remain a key player in Nigeria’s political landscape while pushing for pro-poor policies to mitigate the impact of federal reforms.
