Soludo Dismisses Rumours Of Obiano’s Death, Calls Reports Wicked

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has debunked widespread social media claims that former governor Willie Obiano has died, describing the rumours as malicious, false, and completely unfounded.

The speculation, which circulated across several online platforms on Friday, alleged that Obiano passed away in a London hospital. The rumour quickly sparked confusion among residents and political circles until the state government issued an official statement to clarify the situation.

According to Governor Soludo’s Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, the governor personally spoke with Obiano and confirmed that he is alive, in good condition, and nowhere near the dire state falsely reported online.

Governor Warns Media Against Irresponsible Reporting

While addressing the issue, Soludo expressed serious concern over what he called the “reckless and wicked” spread of a fabricated death announcement. He warned that the circulation of unverified claims, especially about life-and-death matters, undermines public trust and contributes to unnecessary tension among citizens.

He urged journalists, bloggers, and online publishers to uphold basic professional standards by verifying information through official channels before rushing to publish sensitive reports.

“The spread of unverified death rumour is not only wicked and irresponsible but also erodes public trust,” the statement noted. “The Government urges the general public to disregard the trending rumours and rest assured that the former governor is alive, hale and hearty.”

The governor also extended warm wishes to Obiano, praying for continued strength, peace, and a long, fulfilled life.

With the official clarification now made, the state government is urging residents to stay calm and rely on verified sources, especially concerning stories capable of causing widespread anxiety.
