Liverpool manager Arne Slot says he will continue working to turn the club’s form around, insisting his conversations with the club’s owners have remained unchanged despite a damaging run of results.
The Premier League champions were beaten 4–1 by PSV Eindhoven at Anfield in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League fixture, marking their ninth defeat in 12 matches across all competitions. The loss triggered widespread frustration, with large sections of fans leaving the stadium before the final whistle.
Liverpool now sit 12th in the Premier League, their poorest mid-season position in decades, and are preparing for a difficult visit to West Ham on Sunday. The London side has shown renewed momentum under new manager Nuno Espírito Santo.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Slot confirmed he maintains regular communication with Liverpool’s ownership and said those discussions have not shifted despite the club’s slump.
“We’ve had the same conversations since I arrived,” he said. “We fight on and try to improve. That has been the message for the past one and a half years.”
Slot acknowledged the team has fallen below its usual standards but dismissed suggestions that he feels abandoned by his players.

“We know we can perform better,” he said. “Last season, when things went well, I said the team makes the individuals look good. The same applies now. When the team struggles, it reflects on everyone.”
Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard added pressure following the PSV defeat, describing the run of results as edging toward a crisis. Slot, however, said he was focused on restoring confidence within the squad, admitting he slept poorly after Wednesday’s loss.

He explained that Liverpool’s recent difficulties come from failing to convert chances while being punished for defensive errors.
“We’re taking hits repeatedly, which is tough,” Slot said. “But in moments like this, the only response is to keep fighting. That has always been part of this club’s identity.”
Slot also provided an injury update, confirming that goalkeeper Alisson Becker should be available for the West Ham match after missing the PSV game due to illness. He added that midfielder Florian Wirtz is expected to return to training on Saturday.
Liverpool have lost two of their five Champions League fixtures so far, increasing pressure as the group stage nears its conclusion.
