Nigerian singer Emoseh Khamofu, popularly known as Bloody Civilian, has been officially summoned to court over allegations of defaming Helen Ukpabio, the founder of Liberty Gospel Church.
The legal action stems from a statement made by Bloody Civilian in November 2024, where she accused Ukpabio of actions leading to harm against children.
On February 13, 2025, a writ of summons from a high court in Calabar, Cross River State, was issued, requesting that Bloody Civilian appear in court within 30 days. This development follows a letter from Ukpabio’s legal representative, which described the singer’s allegations as “reckless, satanic, and libellous.”
In the letter, Ukpabio demanded a public retraction and apology from Bloody Civilian, to be published on social media and in ten national and international newspapers within 72 hours. Additionally, she is seeking ₦200 billion in damages for the distress and trauma caused by the alleged defamation.
In response to the initial legal threat in November, Bloody Civilian took to social media, humorously stating, “Guys, they just sued me for 200 billion naira. This December, I will add the following to my services: settling family disputes, weddings, comedy…” As of now, the singer has not publicly commented on the recent court summons.
