Senator Okpebholo Calls for Protection as Edo Violence Claims 24 Lives

Senator Monday Okpebholo has made an urgent plea for federal intervention following a surge in violent attacks in Edo State, which have left at least 24 people dead in recent weeks.

The senator, representing Edo Central, expressed deep concern over the escalating insecurity in the state, attributing the violence to armed gangs and political tensions. He specifically called on security agencies to intensify efforts in restoring peace, noting that residents in affected areas are living in fear.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the violence stems from clashes between rival groups, with some incidents linked to land disputes and political rivalries. Victims include community members caught in the crossfire, while properties and farmlands have also been destroyed.

Senator Okpebholo warned that if urgent action is not taken, the violence could spiral further, disrupting the social and economic stability of Edo State. He urged the federal government to deploy more security forces, establish dialogue between warring factions, and implement long-term strategies to prevent future outbreaks of violence.

The security crisis in Edo reflects broader concerns about rising instability in parts of Nigeria, with authorities under increasing pressure to address insecurity across the country.
