Rockstar Delays Grand Theft Auto VI Again, Sets New Release Date for November 2026

Grand Theft Auto VI

Rockstar Games has once again postponed the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, one of the most anticipated video games in history. The long-awaited sequel, initially expected to arrive in fall 2025, will now launch on November 19, 2026, marking the game’s second major delay.

The studio announced the change on Thursday, saying the additional months were necessary to deliver the level of quality fans expect from the franchise. The delay pushes the project back by another six months after its previous shift from fall 2025 to May 2026.

Another Delay for a Decade-Long Wait

Rockstar said the extra development time would help refine gameplay and ensure the release meets its high production standards. The studio’s statement read that the team was “sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait,” but emphasized that the delay was essential for “the level of polish players deserve.”

Grand Theft

The announcement extends an already decade-long anticipation for fans. The last major entry, Grand Theft Auto V, was released in 2013 and became a cultural and financial phenomenon. According to Guinness World Records, the game hit $1 billion in sales within just three days, making it the fastest entertainment property in history to do so.

Excitement for GTA VI has been immense since Rockstar released its first trailer in December 2023. The teaser broke the YouTube record for the most views within 24 hours (excluding music videos), further proving the franchise’s unmatched popularity.

Behind the Scenes at Rockstar

Rockstar did not disclose specific reasons for the latest postponement, but the decision follows internal turmoil at the company. Just last week, between 30 and 40 employees were reportedly fired for allegedly leaking confidential information about the game on a Discord server.

Industry analysts suggest that such disruptions, combined with the game’s scale and technical ambition, may have contributed to the delay.

Despite the setback, expectations for Grand Theft Auto VI remain sky-high. With nearly 12 years since the last installment, fans are hoping the next chapter of Rockstar’s blockbuster franchise will redefine open-world gaming once again when it finally arrives in November 2026.
