Rivers Sole Administrator Confirms Release of Withheld Allocations

 In a decisive move to restore financial stability and ensure the welfare of local government employees, the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, has announced the release of previously withheld allocations to local government areas. ​

During a meeting with Heads of Local Government Administrators in Port Harcourt, Ibas expressed concern over the delays in salary payments that have adversely affected workers. He emphasized the administration’s commitment to addressing these issues promptly to alleviate the hardships faced by employees.​

Ibas underscored the importance of financial accountability and directed all local government areas to submit their wage bills, accompanied by relevant documentation, through the office of the Head of Service. This measure aims to promote transparency and prevent financial mismanagement.​

The administrator, a retired Vice Admiral and former Chief of Naval Staff, reiterated his zero-tolerance stance on financial recklessness. He vowed to scrutinize the handling of public funds meticulously and take decisive action against any instances of mismanagement. “Good governance is not just a slogan but a commitment to changing the negative narrative within the next six months,” he asserted.​

Additionally, Ibas highlighted the crucial role of traditional rulers and security agencies in enhancing security at the grassroots level. He urged local government administrators to collaborate closely with these entities, emphasizing their leadership role in ensuring the safety and stability of their communities. “You must take the lead in ensuring security within your domains,” Ibas urged.​

This announcement comes amid broader efforts by the state administration to restore stability and progress in Rivers State, addressing both economic and security challenges that have impacted the region.
