Rivers House of Assembly pass the anti-open grazing bill.

The Rivers House of Assembly on Tuesday, passed into law the prohibition of open rearing and grazing bill in the state.
According to People’s Gazette, this came after the report by the committee chairman on Agriculture, Anslem Oguguo.

It was gathered that the committee report had 13 recommendations including “no herder shall bear firearms.”
It was also gathered that the house members were divided on certain clauses of the bill
Michael Chinda, a lawmaker representing Obio/Akpor constituency 2, frowned at the clause that allows a pathway for cattle in communities.
According to Mr Chinda such provision was capable of breaching peace between herders and residents, recommending that such provisions of the bill should be completely abolished. 

Other lawmakers also argued that the provision of the pathway for livestock should be granted permission would be granted by supervising agencies.
According to reports, 16 members voted in favour of the passage while Mr Chinfa voted against it.
The house adjourned to Wednesday, September 1, 2021.
