RB Leipzig has officially parted ways with head coach Marco Rose following a series of disappointing performances that have jeopardized the club’s ambitions both domestically and in Europe.
The decision comes in the wake of a 1-0 defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach, marking the team’s seventh consecutive away game without a victory and leaving them sixth in the Bundesliga standings, three points adrift of the coveted fourth-place spot essential for UEFA Champions League qualification.
Marco Rose, appointed in September 2022, initially brought success to Leipzig, leading the team to a German Cup (DFB-Pokal) triumph and a German Super Cup victory. However, the current season has seen a downturn in form, with the club struggling in the Bundesliga and facing elimination from the Champions League. These underwhelming results prompted the club’s management to seek a change in leadership to reinvigorate the team’s performance.
In a statement, RB Leipzig’s managing director for sport, Marcel Schäfer, emphasized the necessity for new impetus: “We have long held onto Marco Rose, but ultimately, we needed a new impulse for the remainder of the season.” Alongside Rose, assistant coaches Alexander Zickler, Marco Kurth, Frank Geideck, and head of first-team football Frank Aehlig have also departed the club.
