President Trump to Lead Task Force for 2026 FIFA World Cup Preparations

President Donald Trump has established a dedicated task force to oversee the United States’ preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted with Canada and Mexico. Announced during a ceremony at the White House, the task force aims to coordinate federal efforts to ensure the successful execution of the tournament.

The 2026 World Cup is set to be a landmark event, featuring an expanded format with 48 teams competing in 104 matches across 16 cities. The majority of these games, totaling 78, will take place in the United States, with Canada and Mexico each hosting 13 matches. The final is scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino attended the announcement ceremony, where he presented President Trump with a personalized game ball and unveiled the trophy for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. Infantino emphasized the economic and social benefits of hosting the World Cup, highlighting the anticipated influx of tourists and the global spotlight on North America.

The task force will face significant logistical challenges, akin to organizing multiple Super Bowls daily, to accommodate the extensive schedule and ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants and spectators. This initiative underscores the United States’ commitment to delivering a world-class tournament and strengthening its position in the global sports arena.
