Former Chelsea manager Graham Potter has admitted that his dismissal from Stamford Bridge in 2023 may have been a blessing in disguise.

Ahead of his return to the stadium with West Ham on Monday night, Potter revealed that, despite the painful nature of his departure, the experience made him a better coach.

“I didn’t want to lose my job, but looking back now, maybe it was the best thing that happened to me,” Potter said.

During his seven-month tenure, Chelsea underwent a chaotic £300 million spending spree, leading to an unbalanced squad and low morale.

Potter also disclosed that he received death threats while at Chelsea, making his time at the club one of the most challenging periods of his career.

After nearly 20 months away from management, he returns with renewed confidence as he aims to steer West Ham clear of the relegation zone.
