Chaos erupted at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national headquarters in Abuja on Monday as supporters of rival factions clashed amid an ongoing leadership dispute. Police were forced to fire teargas to disperse the rioting supporters.
The violence began when Governor Seyi Makinde, Bala Mohammed, and the Turaki-led executive attempted to enter the Wadata Plaza headquarters, clashing with supporters of Senator Anyanwu’s faction who tried to block their entry.

Heavy security had already been deployed to the site as both factions, each claiming to be the authentic leadership of the party, prepared to hold separate meetings in the same location. The Anyanwu-led NWC arrived first, with the senator asserting that he remains the party’s national secretary until his tenure ends in December.
Anyanwu confirmed that security personnel were invited to maintain law and order during the meeting and to prevent any intrusion from the rival Turaki-led executive. Despite the tension, the faction settled into their offices while police tried to control the escalating confrontation.
