I have accepted the immediate resignation of the Service Chiefs, and their retirement from service. I thank them all for their overwhelming achievements in our efforts at bringing enduring peace to Nigeria, and wish them well in their future endeavours.
I have also appointed new Service Chiefs, to replace the retired officers:Major-General Leo Irabor, Chief of Defence StaffMajor-General I. Attahiru, Chief of Army StaffRear Admiral A.Z Gambo, Chief of Naval StaffAir-Vice Marshal I.O Amao, Chief of Air Staff.
1.He was a Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole.2. In December 2017, he was removed from that position after he failed to capture Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau.3. In June 2017, barely a month after Attahiru took over, Boko Haram insurgents attacked Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.4. Attahiru was removed after his time witnessed increased activity of the terror group.5. In his final speech as Theatre Commander, Attahiru claimed his team killed five Boko Haram commanders and neutralised 70 terrorists while he was at the helm.
Chief of Army Staff is the most critical and yet the one once sacked for incompetence by a highly incompetent one is the one the master of incompetence chose to give us.Here is wishing the New COAS surpasses our expectations, surprise us & shut us up with wins against terroristsThank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!— Aisha Yesufu (@AishaYesufu) January 26, 2021
Lt. General Buratai sacked Major General Attahiru Ibrahim in 2017 for not being competent enough in leading the war against Boko Haram.4 years later, Buhari sacks Buratai as Chief of Army Staff and replaces him with the “incompetent” Attahiru Ibrahim. Confusion Break Bone????— Kelvin Odanz (@MrOdanz) January 26, 2021
We have replaced Buratai with someone Buratai sacked for incompetence.

I have been doing some reading on new Chief of Army Staff I Attahiru and I must confess, I’m amazed.I’m amazed by the level of thoughtlessness that went into the decision of making him COAS.— Olóyè. (@oloye__) January 26, 2021
You appointed someone to lead the war against insurgency in May 2017. He was sacked in December 2017 for incompetency.3 years later, you made him chief of army staff? What changed in 3 years that we are unaware of? Nigerians dont rejoice yet ohttps://t.co/3zXpX1lTct— Blessed Beyond Measure (BBM) (@Drmuzoic) January 26, 2021
