Governors elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State following the sweeping victory of the party in the recently concluded local government elections. The PDP secured all 30 local government areas (LGAs) in the state, further strengthening its political dominance in Osun.
In a statement issued by the PDP Governors’ Forum, the party leaders lauded Adeleke’s leadership, describing the overwhelming victory as a reflection of the people’s trust and confidence in his administration.
The statement, signed by the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, commended Governor Adeleke for his commitment to grassroots development, which they believe played a key role in the outcome of the elections.
“This landslide victory is a clear indication that the people of Osun State appreciate and support the progressive policies and governance style of Governor Adeleke. His administration has been people-oriented, prioritizing infrastructure, workers’ welfare, and social development,” the statement read.
The PDP governors noted that the conduct of the election demonstrated the resilience of democracy in Nigeria and the growing acceptance of the PDP as a party that prioritizes the needs of the masses.
The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) conducted the local government elections across the 30 LGAs and the newly created Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs). The PDP emerged victorious in all the contested seats, with no significant challenge from the opposition parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Observers attributed the PDP’s clean sweep to Adeleke’s popularity, as well as the internal crisis within the APC in Osun State. The APC had previously called for the cancellation of the polls, citing irregularities, but OSSIEC maintained that the elections were free, fair, and credible.
Reacting to the congratulatory messages from his fellow PDP governors, Governor Adeleke dedicated the victory to the people of Osun State, promising to use the mandate to deepen democracy and enhance development at the grassroots level.
“This victory belongs to the people of Osun. It is a reaffirmation of their trust in our administration. I assure all residents that we will continue to work tirelessly to improve governance and ensure that dividends of democracy reach every corner of the state,” Adeleke stated.
He also called on the opposition to join hands in developing the state rather than engaging in unnecessary political distractions.
Political analysts see the PDP’s landslide victory as a strategic advantage for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. Osun State, which was previously controlled by the APC, has now firmly returned to PDP rule, and this latest electoral win could further cement the party’s hold on the state.
The PDP Governors’ Forum encouraged Governor Adeleke to sustain his development agenda and ensure that the local government administrations remain effective in delivering services to the people.
Governor Adeleke’s triumph in the Osun local government elections has been widely celebrated within the PDP, further solidifying the party’s influence in the state. As the political landscape continues to evolve, this victory may serve as a crucial stepping stone for the PDP in future elections, both at the state and national levels.
