The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escalated on Tuesday as members loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, suspended the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Adolphus Wabara.

The move follows Wabara’s endorsement of Ude-Okoye as the party’s national secretary over Samuel Anyanwu, a known Wike ally.

However, the official statement from Abia PDP Chairman Abraham Amah claimed Wabara was suspended for allegedly endorsing Abia State Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party for a second term, five months into his administration. The suspension was formalized through a memo from State Treasurer Chizurum Kalu, which accused Wabara of making anti-party statements.

Meanwhile, the party’s National Disciplinary Committee, led by former Foreign Minister Tom Ikimi, has been tasked with resolving the crisis. However, pro-Wike members have refused to recognize the panel, arguing that it is biased.

The suspension motion was seconded by PDP’s state organizing secretary, Obinna Okey, who called for Wabara’s removal from all party offices. The development highlights the deepening factional battle within the opposition party as it seeks to reposition itself ahead of future elections.
