The Lagos State Police Command has rolled out a large-scale security operation ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations, deploying more than 5,000 officers across the state to maintain order and protect residents.
The deployment, which began on Tuesday, covers major highways, inner roads, public spaces, and high-traffic locations expected to record heavy movement during the festive period. Police authorities say the operation is designed to ensure safety before, during, and after the celebrations.
The officers deployed include conventional police personnel, tactical units, intelligence operatives, marine police, and special squads. These teams have been stationed strategically across Lagos, with a focus on crime prevention, surveillance, and rapid response.

Security patrols have also been intensified across neighbourhoods, waterways, and identified flashpoints, as police move to deter criminal activity and prevent any breakdown of public order during the holidays.
Later, the command provided more insight into how the operation will be carried out.
Beyond general security, a significant number of officers have been assigned to traffic management duties to ease congestion associated with festive travel. Major roads, junctions, and known traffic-prone areas are being closely monitored to reduce gridlock and accidents.
The police commissioner has also engaged other safety and emergency agencies to strengthen coordination during the period. These discussions focused on road safety, emergency response, and reducing accidents as movement increases across the state.

Joint patrol teams made up of uniformed officers, tactical units, and intelligence personnel have been tasked with clamping down on traffic robbers, hoodlums, and other criminal elements who may attempt to exploit the season.

The police have urged officers on duty to remain professional and courteous while enforcing the law, while reassuring residents and visitors that adequate measures are in place to safeguard lives and property throughout the festive season and beyond.
