In a landmark move to support higher education in Nigeria, OPay, a leading financial services company, has announced a ₦1.2 billion scholarship program in partnership with Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife. This 10-year initiative aims to provide financial assistance to 4,000 students across 20 Nigerian universities, thereby fostering academic excellence and reducing the financial burden on students.
The scholarship program, which is part of OPay’s Corporate Social Responsibility efforts, will award ₦300,000 to each selected student, covering tuition fees and other educational expenses. The selection process is merit-based, targeting students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance and a commitment to contributing positively to society.
During the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between OPay and OAU, the Chief Public Affairs Officer of OPay, Justin Thang, expressed the company’s dedication to empowering Nigerian youths through education. He stated, “By prioritizing education, OPay continues to demonstrate its commitment to Nigeria’s socio-economic growth, proving that corporate responsibility is not just a duty but a catalyst for enduring change.”
