Former President Olusegun Obasanjo was among the dignitaries who praised the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, for honouring Nigeria’s first lady, Oluremi Tinubu, with the title of Yeye Asiwaju Ile Oodua during the monarch’s 10th coronation anniversary celebrations in Ile-Ife on Sunday.

The installation was held at Afewonro Park, Enuwa Square, as part of the grand finale of activities marking the Ooni’s decade on the throne. The monarch said the first lady had demonstrated rare loyalty over the years, noting that she stood firmly by him at the earliest stage of his reign and continued to support efforts to elevate the Ife Kingdom.

He described Mrs Tinubu as “the mother of the nation,” highlighting the consistency of her support since 2015.

Mrs Tinubu, in her remarks, said the recognition was both humbling and divine. She applauded the monarch’s leadership, saying he had used his influence to promote Yoruba heritage globally and inspire pride across the Southwest. She thanked the people of Ife for their support for the Ooni throughout his tenure, adding that brighter days were ahead for the country.
