Ogun APC Suspends Gbenga Daniel, Kunle Folarin Over Anti-Party Activities

The All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, on August 18, 2025, suspended former Governor Gbenga Daniel and party chieftain Kunle Folarin for alleged anti-party activities during the 2023 elections.

Announced in Abeokuta, the suspension accuses the duo of supporting PDP candidates, undermining APC’s governorship victory. Daniel, now a senator, and Folarin face a six-month suspension, pending a disciplinary committee’s review, as outlined in the party’s constitution.

The decision follows reports that Daniel endorsed PDP’s governorship candidate, particularly in Ijebu, while Folarin allegedly campaigned against APC interests. Daniel has denied the claims, pointing to his consistent support for APC policies in the Senate. Ogun’s political landscape, centered on agriculture and trade, depends on party unity, making the suspensions a significant move. Governor Dapo Abiodun has rallied supporters, emphasizing loyalty to strengthen APC’s hold.

The suspensions have sparked debate, with some viewing them as necessary discipline, while others see them as efforts to silence dissent. The move risks fracturing Ogun’s APC, especially in Ijebu, where Daniel retains influence. As 2027 elections approach, the party’s actions aim to consolidate power but face challenges from internal rifts. The controversy tests APC’s ability to maintain cohesion in Ogun, a key state in Nigeria’s southwest, amid national political shifts.
