Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has advised the Olubadan-designate, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, to draw a clear line between politics and tradition as he ascends the throne of Ibadanland.
In a congratulatory message issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, on Wednesday, Obasanjo said the stool of the Olubadan requires more than influence, it demands humility, patience, divine wisdom, and tolerance.
“It is an exalted and responsible position to be the traditional ruler of all Ibadan people,” Obasanjo said.

“It requires humility, patience, divine wisdom, tolerance, and advice from wide and varied quarters to succeed. Traditional rulership does not compete or conflict with political rulership.”
He wished Ladoja guidance and grace as he takes on the revered title.
Ladoja, the Otun Olubadan and former Oyo State governor, was unanimously endorsed in August as the 44th Olubadan by the Olubadan-in-Council following the passing of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin on July 7, 2025.
His coronation is set for Friday at the new Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo, Ibadan, with President Bola Tinubu, Yoruba monarchs, political leaders, and captains of industry expected to attend. Thousands of Ibadan indigenes will also witness the historic ceremony as Ladoja assumes the throne under the city’s unique rotational leadership system.
