A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Baffa Bichi, has thrown down the gauntlet to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, daring him to a public popularity contest in Kano State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Bichi, who served as the Secretary to the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Yusuf, claimed that Ganduje’s influence in the state had significantly waned and that the APC leader no longer commanded the political loyalty he once had.
“If Ganduje believes he is still as influential as he claims, let him walk through the streets of Kano without security and see how the people truly feel about him,” Bichi said.
The challenge comes amid heightened political tensions in Kano, where the NNPP has been consolidating power since winning the governorship election in 2023.
Analysts believe the growing rivalry between NNPP and APC in Kano will set the stage for a fierce battle in the next election cycle.
