The discussions, led by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, aimed to address concerns over the 50% increase in telecom tariffs, as advised by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
According to a statement from Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information & Public Relations in the SGF office, the meeting focused on maintaining industrial harmony while safeguarding the interests of Nigerians.
After extensive deliberations, the Federal Government and NLC agreed to form a 10-member committee—five from each party—to review the NCC study that prompted the tariff hike. The committee is expected to submit its findings within two weeks.
Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of the NLC, expressed optimism that the committee’s findings would guide the union’s next steps, stating, “We will await the outcome before determining our next line of action.”
