Neville Slams Amorim’s Reign at Manchester United: “It’s Got a Lot Worse”

The turbulent tenure of Ruben Amorim at Manchester United has come under heavy scrutiny, with their recent form and the ongoing Marcus Rashford saga raising serious questions about his suitability for the job. Former Manchester United player and prominent pundit, Gary Neville, has delivered a scathing assessment of Amorim’s leadership, asserting that the Red Devils have significantly regressed under his management compared to his predecessor, Erik ten Hag.

Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford against Crystal Palace marked another dismal chapter in Amorim’s reign. This loss was their seventh in the league, with five of those occurring on their home turf, a stark indication of the team’s struggles. This string of poor performances, coupled with the well-documented fallout between Amorim and Marcus Rashford, a player once considered the future of the club, has fueled speculation about the Portuguese manager’s future at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag, who took charge of United in 2022, initially provided a glimmer of hope, guiding the 20-time Premier League champions back into the top four in his first season. However, a noticeable decline followed, extending into his second campaign and beyond. Neville suggests that Manchester United’s situation has worsened under Amorim, with their erratic performances indicating they are far from a return to their former glory.

Ruben Amorim

“I thought it would get better when Ruben Amorim came in,” Neville admitted on the Gary Neville Podcast. “I thought the enthusiasm and the new system, I thought they’d buy into it, the players, and we’d see a bounce. We’ve seen the absolute opposite. It’s got a lot worse, and that’s surprising.”

Neville emphasized the importance of maintaining belief within the squad, stating that consistent losses will erode the players’ faith in Amorim’s methods.
