NDC Assures Tinubu Of Research Commitment To Tackle Security Challenges

The National Defence College (NDC) of Nigeria has assured President Bola Tinubu of its continued commitment to conduct research on emerging security threats and provide strategic insights to support national defence and development.

The Commandant of the College, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed, gave the assurance on Thursday when the president hosted participants of NDC Course 33 at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The delegation comprised 25 officers from the Nigerian Army, 16 from the Navy, 12 from the Air Force, five from the Police, and 18 participants drawn from various ministries, departments, and agencies. Also in attendance were 23 international officers from countries such as Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Egypt, Cameroon, Morocco, Gambia, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Brazil, and India, among others.

Rear Admiral Ahmed, while briefing the president on the activities of Course 33, said participants were trained on the theme “Strengthening Institutions for National Security and Development in Nigeria” and tasked with researching “Harnessing Indigenous Manufacturing for Enhanced National Security and Development: Strategic Options for Nigeria by 2040.”

Aligning With Renewed Hope Agenda

According to the commandant, the research focus aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in the areas of economic diversification, local production, and national security enhancement.

He commended the president’s policy direction on self-reliance and innovation, describing it as vital to addressing security and development challenges confronting the country.

Rear Admiral Ahmed also appealed for the president’s intervention in completing the college’s permanent site along the Abuja Airport Road. He noted that the project, which began in 2010, has stalled for years and forced the institution to continue operating from its temporary site in the Central Business District.

“The college currently operates from its temporary site due to the non-completion of its permanent complex. We respectfully seek Your Excellency’s intervention to complete this strategic national institution to enable participants dedicate more time to study and professional development,” he said.

A Pillar Of Strategic Military Training

Established in 1993 and formerly known as the National War College, the NDC remains Nigeria’s highest military institution for professional and strategic leadership training. It provides advanced education for senior officers of the Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force, and key government institutions.

Rear Admiral Ahmed disclosed that the college has so far graduated 3,079 participants, including local and international officers from Africa, Europe, Asia, and South America.

He thanked President Tinubu for granting audience to the delegation despite his demanding schedule, noting that such engagements reinforce the bond between the presidency and the defence community.
