Nigerian musician Naira Marley recently testified before a magistrate court in Ikorodu, addressing allegations concerning his relationship with the late singer Mohbad. During the Coroner’s inquest into Mohbad’s death, Marley firmly denied any claims of threatening or molesting the deceased artist.

Marley detailed the professional relationship between his record label, Marlian Records, and Mohbad, highlighting that the late singer was contracted to produce four albums. However, due to ongoing disagreements between Mohbad and his manager, Opere Babatunde, these projects were not completed.

Addressing a viral video where Mohbad alleged that Marley and his associates should be held responsible if anything happened to him, Marley dismissed the claims, stating that Mohbad and his parents later apologized, attributing the video’s content to the artist being under the influence at the time.

Marley also refuted any involvement in Mohbad’s death, asserting that he had not seen the singer for a year prior to his passing and was not in the country at the time of the incident.

Contradicting Marley’s testimony, Oluwasanmi Falade, Mohbad’s lawyer, informed the court of existing disputes between the late singer and Marlian Records over unpaid royalties. Falade mentioned that several communications were sent to the label without response, leading to ongoing litigation before the Federal High Court.

Additionally, Falade testified about an incident where Mohbad was allegedly attacked by music promoter Sam Larry at Lekki Beach. Following legal advice from Falade, Mohbad reported the assault to the Force Headquarters, which unsuccessfully attempted to apprehend Sam Larry on two occasions.
