After months of intense speculation, accusations, and public scrutiny, Nigerian singer and record label boss, Naira Marley, has finally spoken out following his legal exoneration in the investigation surrounding the tragic death of his former signee, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as MohBad.
MohBad, a fast-rising Afrobeat artist, tragically passed away in September 2023 under controversial circumstances, leading to widespread outrage and calls for justice. Almost immediately after his passing, Naira Marley and his associate, Sam Larry, became primary suspects in the court of public opinion due to past allegations of bullying and mistreatment of the late singer. The allegations ignited a firestorm on social media, with many fans and celebrities calling for their arrest and prosecution.
However, after a thorough investigation and judicial proceedings, the court ruled that there was no evidence linking Naira Marley to MohBad’s untimely demise. Despite his legal vindication, the musician remains visibly shaken by the way the situation was handled and the backlash he received from fans and the Nigerian music industry.
“You let them call me a killer. You all watched as I was dragged, threatened, and painted as a murderer. Even people I thought were my friends turned their backs on me,” Naira Marley lamented in a social media post following the court’s verdict.
The Marlian Music boss further stated that he suffered significant reputational damage, lost business opportunities, and endured mental distress due to the accusations. He expressed disappointment in those who spread false narratives and emphasized that he has always maintained his innocence.
Although legally cleared, the controversy surrounding MohBad’s death remains a sensitive topic, with many fans still demanding justice. While some believe that Naira Marley was unfairly accused, others argue that his past conflicts with MohBad justified the public’s suspicion. As he attempts to rebuild his career and regain public trust, the singer has hinted at releasing a tell-all statement or documentary detailing his side of the story.
