In a decisive action against counterfeit and illicit drugs, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed falsified medicines, including Analgin and Tramadol, worth approximately N1 trillion in Anambra State. This operation represents one of the largest drug destruction exercises in the region’s history.

The destruction exercise took place at a designated site in Anambra, with NAFDAC officials ensuring that the process adhered to environmental and safety standards. The drugs destroyed included counterfeit Analgin, a painkiller banned in many countries due to its adverse effects, and unauthorized doses of Tramadol, an opioid analgesic often misused.

The proliferation of counterfeit and substandard medications poses significant health risks to the population, including treatment failures, adverse reactions, and increased mortality rates.
