Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti delivered a career-defining upset on April 10, 2025, defeating defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 7-5 in the Monte Carlo Masters third round, ending the Greek’s bid for a third straight title.

The 23-year-old world No. 21, playing on his favored clay, outmaneuvered Tsitsipas with 28 winners, including a pinpoint backhand to seal the match in 1 hour 58 minutes. “This is my biggest win,” Musetti told Eurosport, crediting his newborn son for extra motivation. The crowd at Monte Carlo Country Club roared as Tsitsipas, ranked No. 12, netted a forehand on match point, his 15th unforced error.

Tsitsipas, who won in 2023 and 2024, struggled with a 60% first-serve rate, a dip from his 78% in earlier rounds. Musetti’s victory, his first over a top-15 player since 2023, propels him to the quarter-finals against Novak Djokovic, who leads their head-to-head 4-1.
