Matawalle Condemns Kebbi School Attack, Orders Joint Security Action

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has condemned the attack on the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga, Kebbi State, where gunmen killed the school’s vice principal and abducted several students.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Ministry of Defence spokesperson, Enderline Chukwu, the minister described the incident as “unacceptable” and urged security agencies to intensify efforts towards locating and rescuing the missing schoolgirls.

Matawalle said the government had already directed security operatives in the state to activate immediate response measures, stressing that the priority was to ensure the students’ safe return.

Minister Calls for Coordinated Rescue Effort

According to him, security forces must work “urgently and in concert” to track the attackers, recover the abducted girls, and bring the perpetrators to justice. He also appealed for calm among residents, assuring communities that the government was closely monitoring the situation.

He extended condolences to the family of the slain vice principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, who was reportedly shot while trying to protect the students during the invasion.

“I pray to Allah to grant him mercy and to console his family over this painful loss,” the minister said.

The attack, which occurred on Sunday night in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, has triggered a large-scale search operation. Police tactical teams, military personnel, and local vigilantes have since been deployed to comb surrounding forests in a coordinated effort to rescue the abducted students.

Authorities say updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
