Liverpool were crowned 2024/25 Premier League champions in emphatic style on April 27, 2025, dismantling Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at Anfield to secure their 20th English top-flight title, equaling Manchester United’s record.

The victory, witnessed by a jubilant crowd of over 60,000 and broadcast live on Sky Sports, marked the first time since 1990 that Liverpool clinched the league title in front of their home fans, as their 2019/20 triumph occurred behind closed doors due to the pandemic. Needing only a draw to guarantee the championship after Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace, Arne Slot’s side delivered a performance of ruthless attacking flair, ensuring a historic moment in his debut season as manager.

The match began with a shock as Tottenham took the lead in the 12th minute through Dominic Solanke, who headed in a cross from James Maddison, silencing Anfield momentarily. Liverpool responded swiftly, equalizing in the 16th minute when Luis Díaz latched onto a deflected shot from Diogo Jota and fired past Guglielmo Vicario.

The Reds surged ahead in the 24th minute, with Alexis Mac Allister unleashing a spectacular long-range strike that rocketed into the top corner, igniting the Kop. Cody Gakpo extended the lead in the 34th minute, placing a precise shot into the bottom corner from a Trent Alexander-Arnold assist, showcasing Liverpool’s relentless pressing.

The second half saw Liverpool maintain their dominance, with Mohamed Salah adding the fourth goal in the 63rd minute, drilling a low shot into the bottom corner after a quick interplay with Szoboszlai, marking his 18th league goal of the season.

The rout was completed in the 69th minute when Destiny Udogie inadvertently turned a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross into his own net, sealing the 5-1 scoreline. Tottenham, depleted by injuries to key players like Son Heung-min and Radu Dragusin, struggled to respond, with their only other chance—a Richarlison header in the 72nd minute—saved comfortably by Alisson Becker.

Arne Slot, reflecting on the triumph, told Sky Sports, “This is a special day for the club and the fans. The players showed incredible hunger to turn the game around and win in style.” He praised Mac Allister’s “world-class” strike and the team’s mentality, noting their 17-match unbeaten run as evidence of their consistency. Tottenham’s Ange Postecoglou, under pressure amid Spurs’ 16th-place standing, admitted his side was “outclassed,” with their focus now shifting to a Europa League semi-final against Bodø/Glimt.
