The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has successfully extinguished a massive fire that engulfed a medical facility in the Ago area of Lagos, preventing further casualties and damage to surrounding buildings.
According to LASEMA officials, the inferno, which broke out late in the evening, was caused by an electrical surge in one of the facility’s main power units. Witnesses reported seeing thick smoke billowing from the building before firefighters arrived at the scene.
In a swift response, LASEMA’s emergency team, in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, deployed firefighting trucks and rescue personnel to contain the flames. The agency confirmed that no lives were lost, although several medical supplies and equipment were destroyed in the blaze.
LASEMA Director-General, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, commended the quick intervention of emergency responders and urged Lagosians to adopt fire safety measures, especially in commercial and medical facilities where sensitive equipment is in use. Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
