The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has identified a pressing requirement for approximately 15,000 public buses to adequately meet the daily transportation demands of Lagos State’s burgeoning population.

This revelation underscores the challenges faced in providing efficient and reliable public transportation within one of Africa’s most densely populated urban centers.

Abimbola Akinajo, LAMATA’s Managing Director, conveyed this assessment during a courtesy visit by the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) to the agency’s headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja. The PCC delegation presented concerns regarding the scarcity of buses and prolonged waiting periods experienced by commuters at various bus stations across the state.

Akinajo acknowledged these challenges and elaborated on LAMATA’s strategic plans to revitalize Lagos’s public transportation system.
