The Lagos State Government has officially released the 2025 Land Use Charge (LUC) bill, urging property owners to comply with their tax obligations to avoid penalties. The bill, which determines the annual tax payable on real estate properties, is a major source of internally generated revenue for the state.
In a statement issued by the Lagos State Ministry of Finance, property owners were advised to check their updated charges and settle payments early to benefit from possible discounts for early compliance. The government also warned that failure to pay the land use charge on time could result in fines, property seizures, or legal actions.
Lagos, being Nigeria’s commercial hub, has seen a consistent increase in property values, making the Land Use Charge a key factor in urban development. While some property owners have complained about the high cost of the levy, the state government insists that the funds generated are used for infrastructural development, security, and public services.
As the new billing cycle begins, the government has assured residents that the collection process will be more transparent and efficient, with online payment options available for convenience.
