The Lagos State Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade, and Investment, Folashade Ambrose, has reiterated the state’s commitment to leading Nigeria’s industrial growth and fostering self-sufficiency in production.
Speaking at the Lagos State Industrial Policy Consultative Assembly and Validation Workshop in Alausa, Ikeja, on Monday, Ambrose stressed the importance of aligning industrial policies with technological advancements and global best practices.
“As Nigeria’s commercial capital, Lagos must spearhead the development of a self-sufficient, innovative, and globally competitive industrial ecosystem,” she stated. “We must leverage our vast human capital, geographic advantage, and entrepreneurial strength to drive economic modernization.”
Ambrose described Lagos as a “Future-Ready Economic Giant,” highlighting the state’s ambitious goals to become a globally competitive industrial hub, a technology-driven economic powerhouse, and a climate-resilient mega city.
The event also featured a keynote address by Reuben Bamidele, National Programme Officer for the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO). Bamidele emphasized the role of sustainability, digital transformation, and public-private partnerships in shaping a resilient industrial landscape.
“The Lagos State Government has made significant strides in improving the ease of doing business and promoting climate-conscious manufacturing,” he said. “Further efforts should focus on green industrialization, resource-efficient production, and industrial energy efficiency as key drivers of economic prosperity.”
