Lagos Assembly Resumes Plenary After Speaker Obasa’s Impeachment

The Lagos State House of Assembly has resumed plenary nearly a month after the impeachment of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa over allegations of financial misconduct and abuse of office.

Despite the significance of his removal, Obasa was absent from the session, with 36 lawmakers present for proceedings.

During the session, Epe Constituency I lawmaker, Abiodun Tobun, praised the Federal Government’s economic policies, claiming that insecurity in Lagos had been significantly reduced. He also moved a motion for the House to send a letter of commendation to President Tinubu for his impactful initiatives.

Similarly, Eti-Osa Constituency II representative, Gbolahan Yishawu, joined other lawmakers in applauding the government’s economic reforms.

New Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, expressed confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, citing the approval of small-business loans and a growing stock market as positive indicators of Nigeria’s progress. She also highlighted the President’s increased investment in national security and commended First Lady Remi Tinubu for her contributions to national development.

Interestingly, the leadership crisis that led to Obasa’s impeachment was not discussed during the plenary, suggesting that lawmakers might be ready to move forward from the controversy.
