Kwara State Unveils Plan to Upgrade Aviation College to Aerospace University, Aims for Global Recognition

In a bold move to enhance aviation training and education in Nigeria, the Kwara State Government has announced plans to upgrade the International Aviation College, Ilorin, into a full-fledged Aerospace University. This initiative is aimed at positioning Kwara as a key player in aviation and aeronautics education within Africa.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq made this announcement during a stakeholders’ meeting, highlighting the need for Nigeria to produce highly skilled aviation professionals to meet the growing demands of the global aerospace industry.

“The aerospace sector is expanding rapidly, and Nigeria must not be left behind. By upgrading the aviation college to a university, we will not only train pilots but also expand our curriculum to include aircraft engineering, avionics, drone technology, and space studies,” AbdulRazaq stated.

The governor emphasized that the state government is working with aviation regulatory bodies and international institutions to ensure the university meets global standards. He also noted that the project will attract both local and foreign investments, create job opportunities, and boost Kwara’s economy.

Industry experts have welcomed the development, stating that it will address the shortage of aviation professionals in Nigeria and provide an alternative to students who seek aviation education abroad. The government has assured that feasibility studies are already underway, with a timeline for implementation to be announced soon.
