The Kogi State Government has formally petitioned security agencies, calling for heightened surveillance on Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central following her defiant homecoming rally in Ihima.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Kogi’s Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, accused the senator of intentionally disregarding the state’s ban on political gatherings, which was imposed to curb potential security threats. He described her actions as provocative and potentially destabilizing.
“The government has noted with concern Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s blatant disregard for lawful directives aimed at maintaining peace and security. We consider this a calculated attempt to incite unrest in Kogi Central and beyond,” Fanwo stated.
He further alleged that the senator’s rally could embolden political elements seeking to cause chaos ahead of the upcoming elections. “Should any disturbances arise from this gathering, she must be held accountable. The state will not tolerate any attempts to disrupt public peace,” he added.
Fanwo reaffirmed the Kogi State Government’s commitment to maintaining law and order, urging security agencies to remain proactive in preventing any acts of political violence.
The senator, however, has maintained that she broke no laws, emphasizing that her visit was purely to reconnect with her constituents.
Despite the government’s concerns, no incidents of violence were recorded during the rally, which drew a massive turnout of supporters.
